The pump runs off electricity, either 12 volts or 120 volts depending on the pump, and does not turn on with water pressure. The product is suitable for outdoor use in a covered patio in Florida but should not be submerged in water. This pump is a replacement for the 8000 543 236 model on a 27 gal. spotlyte sprayer if the fittings can be adapted and need to change from 12 volt DC to 110 volt AC. The pump can be used for drinking water, as long as it's fresh water, but will not work properly with vegetable oil.
